Alberto Longo, Puglia, Italy
One of the most significant wineries in the Lucera area
The company began in 2000, but Alberto Longo's love for his land and passion for wine has much older origins. Since the early 1900s, the Longos have cultivated vineyards and olive groves in the countryside of Lucera and Pietramontecorvino on the hills of northern Daunia at the Masseria Celentano. It was not always like that, however. The Masseria was where poor farmers lived and worked the land of the nobles, getting in return a small piece of what they reaped. The Masseria is where Alberto's parents met and raised Alberto. He took those life lessons on the farm and applied them to school and business- hard work pays off. He bought the Masseria, where life for him began, restored it for his parents, and preserved it as his winery and resort. It is a true life and love story.
Lucera, in the north of Puglia, is an area of very high environmental and historical value. Between the 10th and 3rd centuries BC, the region corresponding to the current province of Foggia hosted the Dauni, an Aegean population who enriched the territory with its culture, legends, and traditions often derived from the Greek civilization.
The 27 hectares of vineyards are adjacent to Masseria Celentano. Alberto Longo founded this splendid winery out of his love for the land and his passion for wine, which combined together gave life to a project of absolute value for its territory of origin, the Daunia. The almost flat vineyards enjoy good ventilation and temperature range thanks to the proximity of the sea and the Gargano. The training system is spurred cordon, the yields are limited, and the grapes are harvested manually. The vineyards undergo periodic green harvests during the growing season and are carefully divided into two lines of wine in the cellar. The production style favors modern, clean, and active wines, with thoughtful use of small woods for the most important reds. Thanks to these devices, Alberto Longo has managed to produce truly unique labels, which are the full expression of the Lucera area; the intense and elegant Cacc'e Mmitte deserves a special mention, capable of bringing a piece of Puglia into the glass. They host both native vines of Negramaro, Montepulciano, Falanghina, and Nero di Troia and international vines such as Merlot, Syrah, and Cabernet Franc. From these lands, they obtain the grapes for our Puglia IGT wines. In addition to being the home of the Longo family, the ancient Masseria of the '600 is the place destined to welcome all those who wish to visit the company, get to know the splendid territory of Lucera, and enjoy the traditional cuisine of the Dauno hinterland.
For generations, the Longo family has dedicated passion and tenacity to cultivating vines to enhance the well-suited and ancient district of Daunia in the Tavoliere delle Puglie. The cellar is located precisely in the municipality of Lucera, within a renovated nineteenth-century farm that houses state-of-the-art vinification and aging rooms, confirming that Apulian wines can be terroir driven while exhibiting elegance.
