The Parcé family established their vineyards near Banyuls in the Roussillon region of France just after the turn of the 20th century. At first the family sold grapes to the co-operative like most of their neighbors, and this situation persisted until 1984 when Marc and Thierry Parcé decided to make and bottle their own wine. They now farm 75 acres of vines in Banyuls, divided into the same number of parcels in the mountains overlooking the Mediterranean. The “Cuvée Therese Reig” is a fortified wine made in the “rimage” style, made much like a standard red wine to preserve the primary fruit characteristics (like a ruby Port) except that in Banyuls the fortification happens late in the fermentation process. It was also bottled early, after only seven months in stainless steel, again to preserve the fresh fruit character. It has aromas of dark fresh fruit and is smooth but not too sweet on the palate with solid acidity and a savory touch on the finish.
