Dosio, Piemonte, Italy
Working together with nature, with the land in which we operate, is one of our founding values.
Reinterpreting tradition in a contemporary way, preserving the history and tradition of these places: this is the leitmotif that has guided the various renovation and restoration works of our winery over the years. Starting from the 1970s when, driven by a strong passion for viticulture and an intuition that saw the surrounding hills as an ideal place for planting vineyards, the ancient farmhouse dating back to the first half of the 18th century was transformed into a winery, giving life to Dosio Vigneti .
The large structure, located on the edge of the historic village of La Morra , on the highest point of the Barolo denomination – the Serradenari hill , enjoys an enchanting position: favorable to the winds, open towards the Maritime Alps and with a view of the Cuneo and Turin plains. These characteristics led it to immediately become the heart of the estate and of the wine production. The gentle hills seem ideal for welcoming native Piedmontese varieties as well as international ones: so alongside the traditional Piedmontese red grape varieties (Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and Freisa) some white grape varieties such as Riesling and Sauvignon are also planted.
2010 marks another important year: the founders are replaced by new owners, the Lanci family, who, thanks to a wise restructuring, give the company a new look .
In full respect of the history of the place, new areas dedicated to the presentation and tasting of wines are set up, with a single objective: to enhance the splendid position of the company completely immersed in the vineyards and located 500m above sea level, with a view that can range up to the summit of Monviso. If at the end of the 90s investing in a company with such an altitude could represent a risk, especially for a grape like Nebbiolo, time has rewarded the courage of the choice.
Production has always been carried out respecting quality and tradition with particular attention, especially in recent years, to the environment thanks to new cultivation and production methods that reduce the environmental impact to a minimum. The parsimonious use of technology does not alter natural rhythms but optimizes the production process. In 2021 , alongside the traditional large and medium-sized barrels, new types of truncated cone-shaped vats are introduced, which have represented an important innovation in the field of winemaking and demonstrate how modern technologies go hand in hand with tradition when we talk about aging. In the same years, important expansions were also made to the winemaking and
refinement rooms to keep pace with the growth of the cellar.
A quality bunch of grapes is born only from a healthy land that, to be such, needs care, sensitivity and attention. From this simple but essential assumption, our constant commitment to the environment originates. In our vineyards we follow the principles of integrated pest management: a crop protection practice recognized and regulated by the European Union Rural Development Plan. This vineyard management allows us to apply sustainable agriculture with low environmental impact through a series of good practices. We use lighter glass bottles to reduce CO2 emission. On a selection of wines we use Nomacorc closures obtained from sustainable and renewable raw materials derived from sugar cane. Since 2022, labels are made on FSC certified paper.
Respect for the environment, for our territory, also passes through agronomic practices such as controlled grassing and green manure. At Dosio we do not use herbicides because the grass with its roots ensures the right oxygenation to the soil and keeps it intact, protecting it from erosion. We also adopt a type of very close planting to encourage the deep rooting of the vines. Not only that, in our vineyards we carry on the ancient practice of green manure which consists of cultivating the soil in rotation with essences of various kinds - legumes or grasses for example; these essences are then buried with the primary objective of enriching the soil with organic substances useful for the growth of the vine and increasing its resistance to drought.
In our vineyards we adopt biological defense methods aimed at counteracting the spread of vine parasites: to protect our vineyards from grapevine moths and grapevine moths – two common parasites – we apply the natural method of sexual disorientation implemented by means of pheromones. In general, in our vineyard park we mainly use latest-generation defense products, which are respectful of the environment and favor the presence of bees and other insects useful for the balance of the ecosystem in which we live and work every day.
In Dosio, the constant and continuous search for quality, both in the final product and in the processes, the land and the structures, has always been one of our founding values. Traditions, experience and peasant wisdom, handed down from generation to generation, guide our daily work. For this reason, almost all the work in the vineyard is done manually: from pruning to pruning up to the most awaited moment of the year: the harvest, done entirely by hand. As in the past, the bunches of grapes are detached, placed in baskets and, thanks to the proximity to the cellar, quickly sent for the subsequent processes, which will transform the grapes into fine wines.
A minimal intervention winemaking approach with winemaking protocols that aim to reduce the use of sulphites, enhancing the expression of each terroir and thus allowing each wine to best express its character.

CRU SERRADENARI
The high hill Barolo
If we could sum up this wine in just one word we would quickly define it as “high”: not only because it is the King of wines but especially because we are faced with the highest Barolo of the entire denomination .
A place of particular symbolic value for us – as the cradle of our winery since 1974, the year of its foundation – the MGA Serradenari extends on the edge of the historic village of La Morra at 500m above sea level. Here, along a sunny slope facing south-west and surrounded by uncontaminated nature, lies the Serradenari di Dosio vineyard: a single body vineyard that embraces the entire estate with the Alpine chain in the background.
In this extraordinary place, characterized by strong temperature variations between day and night and lower temperatures than average, the Nebbiolo vine grows slowly and the grapes ripen late. From this intuition and, at the same time, risk, Barolo Serradenari Dosio was born.
If at the beginning of the 2000s investing in a vineyard at such an altitude could have represented a risk for a grape like Nebbiolo, time has proven us right, and since that distant 2003 – the year in which we launched the first vintage – our Serradenari continues to be a wine that embodies our values, our history, our roots, while at the same time recounting the kaleidoscopic terroir of La Morra from which it is born.
