Peachy Canyon Winery, Paso Robles, California

Peachy Canyon is a family-owned and operated winery in beautiful Paso Robles on California’s Central Coast; near Hearst Castle and Big Sur. Founded by Doug and Nancy Beckett in 1988, Peachy Canyon has long been praised as a producer of award winning California wines that exemplify respect for terroir and dedicated winemaking. Zinfandel has long been Peachy Canyon’s flagship varietal—oftentimes with multiple vineyard designates in production. These red Zinfandels range from elegant and restrained to fruit forward, each an exemplary call to its own terroir. With these exemplary Zins Peachy Canyon has been instrumental in establishing Paso Robles’ reputation as a key California wine region.

Although Zinfandels dominate the tasting menu, you will find Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Petite Sirah, Viognier and more available to sample, including a series of premium Bordeaux-style wines that highlight Paso Robles’ bucolic vineyard terrain. These wines are epitomized by Peachy’s Para Siempre, a top-tier Bordeaux blend based in Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, and Ms Behave, a rich multi-award winning Malbec.

Peachy Canyon has been ranked in the top 100 wines in the world by Wine Spectator magazine, and its many wines have been ranked with 90-point-plus scores, often for multiple vintages.

Peachy Canyon has five estate vineyards properties, all on the west side of Paso Robles. These vineyards, while relatively close together, range widely in terroir and allow our winemaking team the opportunity to showcase the range of Paso Robles' microclimates.

Peachy Canyon's vineyards are farmed using sustainable practices. We compost all byproducts from the winery and reintroduce it to our soils every other year. We also grow barley in between our vine rows to help prevent erosion during the winter months. In the spring we mow and then in Fall, we plant cover crops made up of oats, vetch, peas and legumes in between vine rows. During the growing year we use aggressive canopy management practices to minimize the risk of mildew which in turn reduces our need to spray. Weed control is done mostly by hand.

Water conservation is a huge factor in sustainable farming as well. Peachy Canyon strategically waters each vineyard block throughout the growing season allowing us to maximize the quality of the fruit, minimize water waste and reduce runoff. An added bonus to the water conservation program is that it reduces our use of electricity, another factor in sustainable farming. Pests are managed by introducing beneficial insects such as ladybugs, lacewings, and praying mantis. We spray organic stylet oil to manage our leaf hoppers, (the most common insect pest in our growing area). Nets are used to keep birds from consuming our crops, and traps are used to control gopher populations.

Production Notes The fruit for this Zinfandel was sourced from multiple vineyards on the west side of Paso Robles. Picked as they reached optimal ripeness, the grapes were hand harvested and carefully destemmed. The resulting musts were fermented to dryness and softly pressed before being aged for 18 months in a combination of 30% new French, Hungarian, and American oak barriques and puncheons.

Peachy Canyon - Cirque du Vin 2020 - Bordeaux Blend

While Cirque du Vin has gone through many changes in the last five years – including composition and label – we’re very proud to bring a classic blend of Bordeaux based grape varieties to the table at a price point that should leave more than a few mouths agape. The 2020 iteration of Cirque du Vin is Cabernet Sauvignon dominant, while featuring Petit Verdot and Malbec to round out the blend. The grapes were gently destemmed and fermented in a combination of tanks and small lot bins. Pressing occurred primarily in our bladder press prior to settling and aging in a combination of French and American oak barriques. This wine was blended into tank in mid April of 2022 – about one month prior to bottling in May of 2022.
